How to Make Your Pool Equipment Last Longer: Keep the Equipment Pad Clean

Your pool pump, filter, and heater work hard every day, especially here in Florida. One of the easiest ways to protect that investment is to pay attention to the area where the equipment sits: the equipment pad.

1. Keep leaves and debris away
Leaves, grass clippings, and dirt pile up around equipment fast. They block airflow, hold moisture, and can get inside motors. When you or your landscaper blow the yard, ask them to blow debris away from the pump, filter, and heater, never toward them.

2. Keep your equipment raised
Your pump and other equipment should sit on a concrete pad at least 4 inches high. When equipment sits low or close to the ground, rainwater and dirt can easily get inside, causing corrosion, electrical problems, and early motor failure.

3. Direct gutter water away
Check where your gutters drain. If roof water is pouring onto or near the equipment area, redirect it with a downspout extension so it flows away.

4. Trim back vegetation
Bushes and plants growing around the equipment trap moisture and restrict airflow. This matters most for heaters and heat pumps, which need open space around them to run efficiently and safely.

The bottom line
A clean, dry, raised equipment pad means fewer repairs and longer-lasting equipment. If you’re not sure your setup is protected, or your equipment is already showing signs of wear, contact us. We’re happy to take a look.
